Proficiency 2011/12

2011/2012 Proficiency Dates:

REMINDER: Please bring your Broadbeach SLSC club cap. All members taking part in the proficiency MUST wear a club cap.

Proficiency 1: 11th September 2011                                                                                     (pool swims conducted on the 6th and 8th of Septmber)

Proficiency 2: 9th October 2011                                                                                           (pool swims conducted on the 4th and 6th of October)

Proficiency 3: 13th November 2011                                                                                     (pool swims conducted on the 8th and 10th of November)

All proficiency must be completed by all active members by the 31st of December.

Proficiency consists of a pool swim (to be completed prior to attending the proficiency day), theory paper, run/swim/run, rescues, scenarios and practical assessments in all other award area.

All members must complete a pool swim prior to attending a proficiency day.

Surf Rescue Certificate members are to complete a 200m pool swim (in a pool of no less than 25m) within 5 minutes. The 200m swim must be completed in a pool of no less than 25m and be completed using a continuous over arm stroke (i.e. freestyle).

Bronze Medallion holders are to complete a 400m pool swim (in a pool of no less than 25m) within 9 minutes. The 400m swim must be completed in a pool of no less than 25m and be completed using a continuous over arm stroke (i.e. freestyle).

An email will be sent to all members outlining pool swim locations on the Gold Coast and Brisbane. If you are unable to make these specific locations, a pool swim assessment test form will need to be completed by a level 1 swim coach. This form will need to be presented when signing on for proficiency.

Please note: Members who have not completed a pool swim prior to proficiency will not be eligible to take part in that proficiency.

Run-Swim-Run’s are now timed

Run and Swim distances for the Surf Rescue Certificate are as follows:

  • 100m Run – 100m Swim – 100m Run
  • The run swim run must be completed in 5 minutes or less (if surf conditions prove challenging, assessors discretion can be utilised if required).

Run and Swim distances for the Bronze Medallion are as follows:

  • 200m Run – 200m Swim – 200m Run
  • The run swim run must be completed in 8 minutes or less (if surf conditions prove challenging, assessors discretion can be utilised if required).

Every member must bring their club cap. No red and yellow caps will be worn during proficiency.
