ATV, Tractor & 4WD- Intensive Weekend
All Broadbeach SLSC members are invited to attend the ATV, Tractor and 4WD intensive training weekend. All Broadbeach SLSC members who have completed an ATV induction in previous seasons are required to take part in the ATV upgrade to the ATV Operator award.
All Patrol Captains are required to attend this weekend and gain a minimum of ATV Operator award (upgrade) and Tractor Induction.
Pre-Requisits for the Awards:
ATV Operator: 17 years of age and a current provisional drivers licence
Tractor Induction: 17 years of age and a current provisional drivers licence
4WD Induction: 25 years of age and a current open drivers licence

No matter what your motivation for becoming a lifesaver is, there will always be a personally satisfying challenge ahead. Apart from the benefits of health, fitness, friendship, competition, knowledge, leadership and being able to put something back into the community, there are always lifesaving awards to be gained, with the majority of these awards now nationally recognized.
Surf lifesavers start young with Active cadets (13 to 15 years), Active juniors (15 to 18) years and Active seniors (18 and over).The cadets receive on the job training while on patrol, and the Juniors are involved in all areas of lifesaving and are required to perform patrol duties. All lifesavers are encouraged to gain extra awards to improve their skills.
Some of the awards with the minimum age:
- Surf Rescue Certificate – 13 years
- Radio Operators Certificate – 13 years
- Bronze Medallion / Cert. II in Water Safety (Aquatic division) – 15 years
- Operational First Aid – 15 years
- Advanced Resuscitation Certificate -15 years
- Defibrillator Operator – 15 years
- IRB Crewperson’s Certificate – 16 years
- Silver Medallion IRB Driver’s Award – 17 years
- ATV Induction – 17 years
- Silver Medallion Life Support – 17 years
- Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management – 17 years
- Gold Medallion Advanced Lifesaving – 18 years
These are just a few of the awards that are on offer once you join the lifesaving movement.
To take part in a Bronze Medallion / Cert. II course,
- You must be a minimum of 15 years.
- Have the ability to swim 400 meters in the time of 9 minutes or less.
The course will be run over a period of approximately 8 weeks, generally on a Sunday. During this time you will be taught the skills to become an active lifesaver and then assessed on what you have learnt.
